Gery Carlson, CFO of the Year Finalist
The finalists have been chosen for Memphis Business Journal’s 5th annual CFO of the Year Awards and our own, Gery Carlson is one of five finalists in the Private Company category! We couldn’t be more proud that Gery has received this great honor.
At Regency Homebuilders, we firmly believe in the team approach, but if Regency was to have a team captain, Gery Carlson would take the spot. As CFO of Regency Homebuilders since 2011, Gery’s accounting, finance, and legal departments keeps Regency reactive, forward thinking, and on a mission as the most successful homebuilder in the Mid-South. After earning a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Santa Clara University, Gery went on to earn a Law degree.
Using his education and experience, Gery went on to become the owner and operator of his own CPA firm for over 20 years. Gery held CFO positions in both the software and medical device industries in California before relocating to Tennessee to become CFO for Regency in 2011. With attention to detail, vast knowledge and understanding of the business, accounting and tax rules, and legal expertise Gery has proved to be invaluable in building the framework that has led Regency to become the top homebuilder in the Mid-South. When Gery started in 2011, the company had 11 employees, with construction in two counties. Today, Regency has 32 employees and construction in two states. Using his sense of humor and wonderful story-telling abilities, Gery always has time to offer his knowledge, education, and vast experience to his friends and colleagues. He is currently lending help to two small start-up companies, one in California and one in Colorado.
Just like at Regency, Gery is helping to lay the ground work to get these businesses off the ground and helping two young families achieve success. Gery also enjoys sports and assists in coaching little league baseball for his grandchildren. He is the proud grandfather of nine grandchildren that spread the continental U.S. from New York to California! Gery’s work ethic, his ability to unify employees, and his strength in developing a successful business proves that he is an excellent candidate for Memphis Business Journal’s CFO of the Year.
